Streamlining Multiple Websites into One

The Brief
The Duke of Edinburgh Award had a problem. Due to the organic growth of their online presence across a number of years, they had not one, but seven websites all built on different technologies. Not only did this create a conflicting, fragmented and confusing user journey, but it was also extremely time consuming and complicated to administrate.
CMS platform consolidation
Multiple API connections
Updated front-end & user experience
The Solution
The clear objective was to centralise all the information into one website. We did this consolidation onto the client's preferred CMS, WordPress, and layered on new technologies to speed up the platform and improve the site’s usability on mobile dramatically.

Alongside improved information hierarchy and content signposting, the global search was sped up by writing SQL queries to the database, enabling DofE participants to find what they needed faster than ever before.

On deployment, a full SEO migration plan was implemented to ensure the maximum domain authority and search visibility was maintained from the old sites.

The Result
The consolidated site has been a great success. Not only has the number of active users engaging with the DofE Award increased, but the number of helpdesk enquiries received from participants has dropped off massively, enabling the team to reallocate resources and achieve more. The site has also benefitted from a large boost in organic traffic generated by the SEO planning and implementation
